Hurray for Marktplaats!
Thanks to Marktplaats we now have a lovely dark brown bookcase and about 1,5 meter of Feist books for only 400 EUR. The bookcase was 300, my offer, and the books were 100 (22 hardcover books, mind you). I snatched it from under someone else's nose. There was an offer on Marktplaats for 200 but as soon as I found the advertisement I made an appointment to come see the bookcase and added 100 EUR to the current offer. After deciding we wanted it we immediately got the money and a trailer and went back to pick it up. It's now standing in our living room. It needs a bit of tinkering to close up a recess on the bottom (it was a kitty tunnel) and then bolt it all together again. The cats have already been all over it. We're left with one spare part of the bookcase. It was a custom made work with two corners in it. We only have use for one corner so we've got one segment left that we can use elsewhere in the house as a bookcase. Perhaps in the attic for the hobby books. So yay, another thing to cross off the list! Written by Brenda :: 29 Sep 2011 - 10:33 :: 0

Picking curtains sucks!
Right what the title states. Leen Bakker and Kwantum have cheap stuff, but it's visible that it's cheap because the back is often just white, instead of the same color as the front. The fancy curtain shops have nothing below 20 EUR per meter. And when searching online your monitor is fucking up the colors. We ordered some samples because the fabrics looked nice brown/copper colored and most of them are actually yellow-ish. Yuck. We're not sure if we want curtains or so called 'in-betweens'. Vitrage is not our thing because you can see through it quite clearly. Do we want a design, stripes, or uni? Argh!! The current things we have hanging in the living room are literally falling apart so we really need something new. But how the h*ll are we going to decide on something? Then there's the garden. I made a plan on how I'd like it to be. Matthijs agreed. But when do you actually work on it? In the evenings we're already loosing daylight, it's dark at 20:00, so we don't get much done. The weather won't be improving as we draw nearer to autumn/winter and our weekends are used up right into October and we do need to work on week days. Perhaps I want too much at once, but I just got these itches that need scratching but there's seems to be no time or opportunity for it. Written by Brenda :: 20 Sep 2011 - 14:11 :: Prrrr.. 2

Busybusy
We finally have a sideboard (buffetkast) that fits the style of our house. Yay, now the few pretty wine glasses that we own are out of their box. So is the small collection of figurines. The eating area looks more finished now. Aside for looking for a sideboard (2 evenings of visits and lots of browsing the internet) we're working on preparations for Taboe (last weekend of September/first of October), Moots (14-16 October) and we should start working on Failsafe too. Argh, so much to be done! For Taboe I want to make a spear (it's ready to be latexed) and I had to come up with a reason why Netel is now living with a different clan, since the people I played with last year are not coming. If time allows it I should also make a more comfortable belt to wear my 'leggings'. For the Moots we've had 2 huge meetings so far. Planning a third one to cover logistics since we'll be going with a group of about 20-30 people who all need a place to sleep and something to eat. For the Moots I need a whole new costume (dress - done, coat - nearly done, hat - barely started, apron - non existent, pants - done) and I want to fix my staff. The latex was flaking off and the whole thing was a bit to neat to represent a wooden stick with metal parts at the ends. So I stripped it of it's latex and last evening I roughened up the wood part. It's also a bit thinner now so my hands can actually go around the staff for better grip. For Failsafe I need to come up with a character before the first of October, think about a possible weapon that my character might carry around (something basic like a toilet brush, book, piece of wood, whatever) and a costume. I'm exited about the whole concept of this event, but since Taboe and Moots are up first, they take up all my mind space at the moment. And then of course there's work. Lots of rush jobs, deadlines jumping at you from behind bushes. The one guy that is our last project manager is trying really hard but it's just too much work for one person. And then there's still the house of course. We need a grand bookcase in the living room (to finally unpack the 10 boxes of books...), skirting around the floor, curtains (I hate looking for curtains...) and all kinds of other things. This Saturday we have a housewarming/birthday party thing, so we need to clean up a bit before Saturday. We invited about 70 people. We heard from about 20 of them. So it's time for a reminder e-mail. When my dad returns from his vacation at the end of this month we want to start renovating the toilet downstairs. We've planned to remove all tiles before dad returns, so we can get started on the building part as soon as possible. This Monday we went to Amersical for a try out lesson and we signed up. It's a musical club. It's located at the other end of Amersfoort so we'll have a nice cycling trip every time we go there. My belly dance lessons start at the 22nd of this month. Well, back to work now. Let's see if we can catch this deadline... Written by Brenda :: 14 Sep 2011 - 10:12 :: 0
