Maladignia's blog
Sitting cat Welcome to my home-cooked journal.
Here you will find my rants about every day life and things that keep me busy.
In the past I have frequently written, but there's no saying if I'll continue on that path. It all depends on how busy I am.
Have fun reading my scribbles.
Dye results
Dye results

As Jojo pointed out, some pictures of the actual dye results would be nice. So here we are.

  • Top left: fabric natural linen, mordant vinegar, dye extract of ground elder (zevenblad).
  • Top right: fabric white cotton, mordant alum, dye tansy flowers (boerenwormkruid). Fresh flowers, in with the fabric. Afterwards heated in a bath of ammonium hydroxide (ammonia).
  • Middle strip: fabric natural linen, not dyed. This was what I started with.
  • Bottom left: fabric natural linen, mordant vinegar (until I realised it does not need that with onion skins), dye extract of red onion skins.
  • Bottom center: fabric natural linen but bleached, mordant alum, dye tansy flowers (fresh ones, in with the fabric). Afterwards heated in a bath of ammonium hydroxide (ammonia).
  • Bottom right: fabric natural linen, mordant first dye bath vinegar, dye first dyebath extract of tansy flowers. Second dye bath no mordant if I recall correctly... I just dunked it in as an afterthought with my second tansy experiment. There might have been some alum left in that bath though. Second dey bath dye: fresh tansy flowers. Afterwards heated in a bath of ammonium hydroxide (ammonia).

From the bottom right fabric I have made a pouch. From the bottom left fabric I have made a very long belt and from the center strip (i.e. non dyed) fabric I have made my dress. I am planning to make something to cover my head with from the brownish fabric too. But I do not know what pattern to use and if I'll have enough fabric. But I could always combine it with the brightly yellow (bottom center) strip of linen which has no purpose yet.
